How does Black Friday work at Amazon?
Because Amazon is such a large retailer, they handle Black Friday a little differently than other big names. Rather than a broad Black Friday sales ad, Amazon has somewhat unpredictable limited time deals on very specific items and in very limited quantities which update every few minutes. These deals are aptly named Lightning Deals. Within the weeks preceding Black Friday, Amazon will release previews or hints as to which items will be discounted on Black Friday weekend. Customers can choose to "watch" the deal and be alerted when the sale price is active, however you won't know how big the discount is until the sale is available. As expected, the hottest items sell out within seconds, sometimes before the alerts are even sent, so if you want an item badly enough, we recommend staying by your computer and refreshing until the deal comes up. Thankfully, Amazon does give timers for when the sale will start on each item so you won't be waiting all day, but with new deals going live every five minutes, we predict Amazon's Black Friday lightning deals will keep you busy.

Most of the items that seem to be discounted on Lightning deals from Amazon during Black Friday weekend tend to be toys, homewares, and shoes and apparel. However you can still find some really great discounts on tech items such as new television sets, headphones, and computers by sorting by category and focusing on the ones that matter most to you. Last year, we saw LCD TVs offered for under $200 and $50 off select Bose bluetooth headphones so you just have to check back often to see what's been added recently.
